September 5, 2012 ? New York, NY. Scott Petronis, Chief Product Officer of Onboard Informatics, will serve as Chair of the Real Estate Standards Organization Transport Workgroup, running a workgroup session at their Fall Meeting to discuss industry standards for a real-time application programming interface (API) for IDX listings September 5-6 in Chicago.
Petronis pioneered the Listings Search Engine API in 2010 at Onboard Informatics, the first real estate industry solution provider to deliver an MLS-approved flexible IDX search technology to the marketplace. Through partnerships with companies like EXIT Realty, consumers can search based on filters like commute time, proximity to schools and parks, search within a polygon and more.
APIs provide the means to exchange services and data without requiring both parties to invest in content, data management, and technology needed to deliver listings. Over the past few years, the industry has begun to embrace the ability to break from traditional framed and HTML solutions to deliver unique search experiences and reduce data management tasks.
The Workgroup?s mission is to provide technical processes for analyzing extensions to transport methods in current and future versions of the RETS specification.
The real estate community?s exploration of a Listings API is an offshoot of the added security the owner has in controlling the distribution of their listings. Brokers and franchisors have also lauded the offloaded feed standardization, streamlined investments, and data quality that is the result real-time updates to reflect actual listing activity.
?The RESO Board is pleased to appoint Scott as the Chair of the Transport Workgroup, and his leadership and technical expertise will contribute greatly to our standards efforts,? said Rebecca Jensen, Chair of the Real Estate Standards Organization (RESO).
Petronis brings over 15 years of experience in managing B2B applications, SaaS, APIs, Web and mobile applications and content services designed to drive client business.
About RESO/RETS
The Real Estate Transaction Standard (RETS) facilitates data transfer between partners in the real estate industry. Creating and improving RETS is a collaborative effort to simplify moving real estate information from system to system and simplify solution development efforts. As RETS usage matures and expands, MLS with geographic overlaps can create data-sharing policies that provide their members a single point of entry to search multiple MLS data sets.
